Although the resorts of Salou, Cambrils and La Pineda are well catered for with public transport. If you want more freedom to be able to see the wonderful Catalonian countryside including the picturesque mountains, or maybe visit some of the other villages towns and resorts a littler further afield, then car hire would be a great advantage.
Generally the road network around the region is good, parking is fair although in the peak months of July and August parking in some places can be a small problem but with a little planning and arriving a little earlier this can be overcome, on the plus side at these times, with your own hire car, you do not have to suffer crowded buses and trains and queues.
Car hire is readily available in the area at both Reus airport and also locally in the resorts themselves, with some well known names you will recognise. It is always advisable to book your car before you travel, so as to avoid dissapointment, the busier it gets the less choice you have.

There is so much to explore in the Costa Dorada region, the nearby Historic Roman city of Tarragona is worth a visit. Among the Tarragona tourist attractions include the Roman ruins of Tarraco and the Museum of Archaeology. Take a look at some of the lesser known resorts along the Costa Dorada Coastline for a change of scenery. The nearby town of Reus also has its own attractions including some great shopping and the Gaudi centre where you can learn more about Spains most famous architect Antonio Gaudi.
The Ebro Delta (Delta de L'Ebre) is one of the largest wetland areas in the Mediterranean region, and is habitat for more than 300 species of bird, Designated as a Natural Park in 1986. In the heat of summer its time to wind down the windows, pack up a picnic and just head out into the countryside and mountains and away from the tourist trek of Salou and white knuckles of PortAventura theme park and find a nice sheltered spot and laze around for a few hours while enjoying Costa Dorada Alfresco style, a great way to unwind.
