10 Great things about Salou

1. Beaches
Great safe sandy beaches are the hallmark of Salou, many have blue flag awards. The beaches are cleaned regualarly and slope gently into the sea. On the usual calm days these beaches offer great safe bathing. (Always check the warning flags especially when storms are around).

2. Location
With Reus airport a short taxi ride away, there are no two and three hour transfers to Salou, in fact you could be in your hotel an hour after touchdown!. There is also the benefit of short flight times from the UK. 1.5 to 2 hours from Luton.

3. Great for Kids
Salou is great for families with kids of all ages, the beaches are great for kids and have plently of play areas dotted along the sea-front to keep the kids amused. The wide paved promenade is lined with palms and makes walking around Salou easy and safe.

4. Food
Salou offers a great variety of food to cater for all tastes, whether you want a gourmet restaurant, local seafood dishes or a McDonalds for the kids. The side streets tend to have better less crowded cafes and restaurants, that I find are also better value.

5. Transport
Buses are plentiful and run right along the seafront between Salou, Cambrils and La Pineda and also to Tarragona and Barcelona. Bus travel is cheap with journies costing just a couple of euros. Taxis are also quite reasonable. A fun way to travel is via the road train 'Trenet' which also runs along the sea front and up to PortAventura.


6. Friendly
Salou is a friendly place and does not make you feel threatened when walking around. Bars and restaurants are child friendly and always provide a great welcome for all the family.

8. Hotels and Apartments
Yes Salou is a tourist destination and being so have a vast range of hotels and apartment blocks, these are generally on a smaller scale, with very few 'high rise' blocks, making the view not so concrete jungle.

9. Barcelona
The magnificent cultural city of Barcelona is only a short distance away and easily accessible by train or by one of the regular coach trip available from Salou. Barcelona boasts Museums, Zoos and of course the FC Barcelona stadium 'Camp Nou', as well as being just a great city to visit.

10. Cheap Breaks
Salou is served by low-cost airlines as well as the major tour operators, by being flexible and searching around, great cheap budget breaks away in the sun are easily achievable.
